His name is specially associated with the wide variety of gadgets which he invented and marketed and particularly with the indicator which he developed, first at WEDNESBURY, improved, patented and sold in large numbers and defended vigorously against the drive for ‘open access’ which eliminated the need for them. His association with indicators was understandably accompanied by bitter enmity for J D Brown as 'open access' pioneer.
